Vitamin D comes in two forms, D2 and D3. D2 is found predominantly in plants, whereas D3 originates in animals and humans. As Vitamin D3 is the form made in the body it is considered far easier to absorb and therefore more effective.

Public Health England suggest that those people whose skin gets little or no exposure to the sun take a year round daily supplement. If you feel that you do not eat enough of vitamin D containing foods it would also be good to supplement daily. For example those on a vegan diet (much vitamin D comes from animal containing products).
