Turmeric iced tea for health & wellness

Turmeric is an amazing ingredient for health and valuable part of nature's pharmacy. It contains an active compound called Curcumin which harness' amazing anti inflammatory properties. If you suffer from arthritis or any form of joint inflammation add turmeric to your shopping list. Even if you don't,  add turmeric to your diet anyway! There are so many other benefits linked to overall wellness, ageing and preventative health.

Some benefits of Turmeric:

  • Studies have shown turmeric to be as effective an anti-inflammatory as prescription drugs. 
  • Turmeric supports liver function.
  • Curcumin has been proven to boost the effectiveness of some cancer drugs.
  • Curcumin is healing to skin conditions such as psoriasis. 
  • It reduces the rate of mental decline.
  • A strong antioxidant, the curcumin in turmeric helps mop up free radicals in the body. 
  • A natural antiseptic and anti microbial.
Back to my tea.
I wasn't too sure about making an entire drink from turmeric given its bitter taste. I use it a lot in cooking but I was thinking turmeric tea was for the hard core. 
Turmeric tea
How wrong could I be.
Here is the recipe:
Put 600ml of boiled water in a pan and add
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tbsp. chopped fresh ginger
2 cardamom pods
Sprinkle of black pepper
Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
Strain into a jug and mix in the juice of a freshly squeezed lime and a tbsp. of honey.
Chill and pour over ice and lemon.
